Job Description Job Description Position Overview The Ophthalmic
Technician II is an intermediate-level clinical role responsible
for performing comprehensive patient screening and diagnostic
testing to support ophthalmologist evaluations. This position
functions with increased independence and accuracy and serves as a
key contributor to clinical flow and physician efficiency.
Principal Duties and Responsibilities Patient Screening & Clinical
Workup Perform complete ophthalmic pre-exam screenings in
accordance with provider protocols. Obtain, verify, and document
detailed medical and ocular histories, including chief complaints.
Measure and document visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and
refractions, and basic motility, pupil, and CVF assessments.
Prepare patients for physician examination, including administering
diagnostic drops and dilation per protocol. Diagnostic Testing &
Imaging Perform intermediate-level ophthalmic diagnostic testing,
including: Applanation or non-contact tonometry Visual field
testing (Humphrey Visual Field) Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT)
Fundus photography Perform all diagnostic testing as ordered by the
physician. Ensure testing accuracy and completeness prior to
physician evaluation. Identify and communicate notable findings or
concerns to senior technicians or providers. Documentation &
Workflow Management Accurately document all screening and test
results in the EHR. Review patient charts to ensure readiness for
provider exam and testing completion. Manage assigned tasks,
including patient messages, prescription refills, faxes, and prior
authorizations. Patient Education & Communication Explain testing
procedures and provide basic patient education related to
medications and care instructions as directed. Communicate
effectively with patients, providers, and team members to support
clinic efficiency. Equipment, Safety & Inventory Clean, maintain,
and assist with calibration of ophthalmic equipment. Monitor
testing area and exam room supplies; report inventory needs. Ensure
compliance with HIPAA, OSHA, and infection control standards.
Professional Development Continue to develop ophthalmic technical
skills and clinical knowledge. Support training and onboarding of
Ophthalmic Technician I staff as assigned. Perform other duties as
assigned. Qualifications COA certification preferred or actively
working toward certification. Demonstrated competency in ophthalmic
screening and diagnostic testing. Strong organizational skills and
ability to prioritize in a fast-paced clinical environment.
Excellent communication, documentation, and patient interaction
skills. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
Ability to travel to satellite clinic locations as needed.
Availability to work Monday through Friday, with rotating Saturdays
