Job Description:
The Technical Standards Program Associate plays a key role in
supporting the development and implementation of ITE's technical
standards products and programs, particularly those conducted in
collaboration with the United States Department of Transportation.
This position is also responsible for producing and delivering
high-quality content to ITE members, with a focus on professional
development opportunities such as webinars, conference sessions
(both virtual and in-person), and technical meetings. The associate
works closely with standards development volunteers, ITE members,
and internal staff to support content creation, coordinate project
activities, and facilitate stakeholder engagement across multiple
program areas. This position reports to the Chief Technical Officer
but is managed on a day-to-day basis by the Transportation
Technology Senior Director.Essential Duties and
Responsibilities
- Conducts technical work in areas such as Intelligent
Transportation Systems (ITS), ITS standards, transportation
cybersecurity (TCS), and Connected Transportation Interoperability
(CTI) to support the development of standards, guidance documents,
and training materials.
- Supports the Transportation Technology Senior Director in ITE
contract task order project management through the preparation of
progress reports and deliverables.
- Assists in the planning and delivery of technical webinars,
workshops, and other learning opportunities by helping to identify
relevant topics, recruit speakers, and coordinate content
development.
- Supports the preparation of technical publications by working
with authors, review panels, and technical committees to ensure
quality and consistency.
- Provides administrative and technical support to advisory
groups, technical panels, and committees, including coordinating
meetings and maintaining documentation.
- Collaborate with other Standards Development Organizations
(SDOs) to implement work plans and manage volunteer and technical
activities in areas such as ITS, TCS, and CTI.
- Designs and conducts technical surveys and prepares summaries
and visualizations to communicate key findings.
- Collects, organizes, and analyzes technical data to support
ongoing projects and product development.Education
- Bachelor's degree, or commensurate work experience, required in
a relevant technical field; master's degree preferred.Experience
- Minimum of three to five years of professional experience in
ITS, ITS standards, transportation technology, transportation
cybersecurity, connected transportation, or related fields.
- Demonstrated experience in supporting outreach and engagement
efforts such as technical webinars, publications, peer exchanges,
and professional workshops.Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of systems engineering, ITS technologies,
transportation standards, and cybersecurity practices; familiarity
with connected vehicle environments is highly desirable.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills with the
ability to work effectively with staff, members, public agencies,
consultants, and other partners.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite of tools (Word, Excel,
PowerPoint, Project, Outlook, Teams); Zoom and similar virtual
meeting tools; and general familiarity with collaborative tools and
content management systems.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills with the
ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a dynamic
environment.
- Ability to convey technical and non-technical information
clearly and effectively, both in writing and verbally.
- Experience with project planning, coordination, and budgeting
within a technical or standards development context.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
